Auckland (during Volvo Ocean Race stop over in NZ): HPYD5 – High Performance Yacht Design (8th – 11th March 2015)

logoAuckland (New Zealand) takes the chance having organized a very interesting event, the 5th international symposium “High Performance Yacht Design” (HPYD5).

HPYD is a series of conferences on high performance yacht design organised by the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) NZ and the University of Auckland. The first conference was held in December 2002. Since then it has showcased the latest developments in yacht research from around the globe. The conference enables naval architects, engineers, designers and researchers to present and hear papers on the current state of high performance yacht and power craft technology.

The topics in 2015 are interesting and might become relevant for designing new multihulls. Just to name some highlights, e.g.

  • Wingsails (Optimisation methods, Aerodynamic Optimisation and Design)
  • Two-Elements and Multi-Elements Wind Sails (Numerical Prediction of Stall, Wind Tunnel Investigations)
  • Sail and Rig Tune (Aerodynamic Study)
  • Water Impacts of Flexible Composite Hull Panels (Quantification of Hydroelasticity)
  • Flexible Foil for Sailing Applications (Experimental Analysis of Hydroelastic Response)
  • Sail Trimming (FSI Simulation)
  • Aerodynamics of Headsails (Measured Surface Pressures and Expected Flow Fields)
  • Simulation of Rigid Multiple Sails
  • Hydrodynamic Aspects of Transom Stern Optimization

… and some other more. Download the fully programme 2015 as PDF here.
