The Record SNSM (Saint-Nazaire – Saint-Malo (=234 nautical miles))  which runs from June 19 to 23 from Saint-Nazaire (44) this year is the opportunity of a technological innovation in the field of telecommunications.

The Formula 40 Trimaran Ocean Addict (launched in 2003) is skippered by Eric Defert and will indeed be equipped with NeptuLink by MVG, the first antenna with the 4G system for broadband Internet access in coastal areas, developed by Microwave Vision Group.

Throughout the race, NeptuLink by MVG will transmit live pictures of the trimaran, during periods of 4G connections. Steer the boat, set the sails, studying the weather … the race will have no more secrets for users, who will be able to live during this 30 hours!

But that’s not all: the crew will also offer on-board scientific interventions on board the trimaran. He will speak during the race on the program “Target Plankton” led by Océanopolis, addressing directly to connected users!

Eric Defert, the Brest skipper, testifies on ActuNautique.com: “Microwave Vision Group is an innovative partnership for our participation in the Record SNSM. It is a real vote of confidence for us as a skipper. I am delighted that the trimaran Ocean Addict is the first ship to be equipped with 4G broadband system. Only a few professionals had access to date, via a satellite system rather expensive. I am really convinced of the usefulness of this system for all users from the sea, it will also enhance safety at sea. This first system with 4G broadband during the SNSM record will be an interesting experience. Direct sharing with the public, while remaining course focused on sailing and performance the boat ride! “

Yann Toutain, R & D manager at MVG, said for his part: “Our team has worked for two years with renowned partners (Thales Communications & Security, Alcatel-Lucent, Deti, Telecom Bretagne) on the development of this new sea connection to broadband Internet. This is a great success of the French collaborative research and outcome of the combined efforts of the cluster Mer Bretagne Atlantique and Images & Réseaux…”

All the crew can communicate in real time with the teams remained on land and online communities following the Record SNSM. NeptuLink by MVG reconciles the lovers of sailing enthusiasts and the canvas by providing access to business applications for tourism, for security and defense or even for the SNSM (Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer)…
